Zirconium (Zir)

Zirconium possesses extreme durability, is corrosion resistant, and is lighter then steel.

Zirconium, also known as the chemical element (Zr). Zirconium possesses extreme durability, is corrosion resistant, and is lighter then steel. Zirconium used in the dental industry undergoes the processing technique of being isostactically pressed (pressed from all directions with uniform pressure creating a high quality homogenous dense material) and with the use of the additive of yttrium oxide to stabilize in a tetragonal high strength state. With the use of the innovative CAD/CAM technology, zirconium is milled and sintered into a crown or bridge giving us a high strength, outstanding marginal integrity, and excellent esthetic and functional restoration. There is a wide variety of manufactures of this technology including: 3M ESPE -Lava®, and Noble Biocare -Procera®.
